Ince Cemetery Chapels 2017
in 2017 The Victorian Society demanded action to save two chapels created by Alfred Waterhouse at Ince Cemetery
But two beautiful buildings which have quietly stood guard over a Greater Manchester graveyard now risk falling into ruin after years of neglect.
Now one of a respected heritage body have demanded action to save two chapels created by Alfred Waterhouse at Ince Cemetery.
Shocking pictures show the sorry state of the small brick chapels - both the work of the esteemed Victorian architect who created London’s Natural History Museum as well as well as Manchester Town Hall.
The two structures have been named among the most endangered buildings in the country by the Victorian Society preservation group.
Built in 1855 the pair were designed as elegant and peaceful places for worship in the former Manchester suburb. But now they are falling apart brick by brick and have gaping holes patched up by wooden boards, which are now rotting away.
Trees have even broken through the roof of both chapels, with one almost completely covered.

Great presentation last night. Victorian chapels to be 'brought back to life' by £100,000 restoration project March 2019 … What happened to this project? Serious question

Not enough money with the £100,000
Future of two listed and derelict Victorian chapels in Wigan borough cemetery still uncertain
The future of two historic yet dilapidated chapels in a Wigan borough cemetery remains up in the air.
Now Wigan Council has said the investment it originally pledged four years ago is not enough to make the buildings water tight and secure. Instead, it is hoping to support the setting up of a "friends" group to apply for more funding.
