Re: Christmas star
It is about the only thing visible in the southwestern sky with a slight reddish tinge.

Happy Solstice everyone
I ventured outside late last night - the sky was pretty clear yet I couldn’t see the Christmas Star, but there was a lot of constellations.

Re: Christmas star
I thought the Christmas star ,was a star Apparently, Jupiter and Saturn will appear extremely close Dec 21 2020.
Because the planets will be so close together near Christmas, it’s being dubbed the “Christmas Star” by some. The two gas giants will be separated by only .1 degree. To the naked eye, it will likely appear as two distinguishable separate points, rather than one “star,” but it does depend on one’s eyesight and atmospheric conditions.

Re: Christmas star
As I said it was overcast on that Monday night but I awoke at about 4am Tuesday morning and ventured outside to a clear night sky. I saw what I believe to be the Great Conjunction, though I can't be 100% sure. Unfortunately I was unable to hold my binoculars steady so didn't get as good a view as I might have done. It just looked like a very bright star.
