When we all moved from Rose Hill Pem; Sec; school, mixed , to Pem Boys , our school yard was an adventure wonderland . If you stood with your back to the school and looked down towards Wigan, .....to the left Norley Quarry , no fence. Infront , Red Ash , to the right an unfenced pond . happy dayzzzz

I remember my sister taking me to visit an uncle at Marsh Green before the new houses were built. We walked over the red ash, it felt very eerie to me as a kid. I suppose I could liken it to something from a Sci fi film

It had that spontaneous combustion going on , and occasionally it would smoke like a volcano , it was burning inside . The council used some of it to fill in the solid floors as hardcore in some of their houses , and most of the floors developed large humps , they all had to be excavated and the ash removed and re asphalted again .

Whenever we went there, we found it was infested with Indians. So, as proud and dedicated cowboys we were forced to eliminate them.....!!!!
