Its actually quite simple to extract the heat from the underground water, and quite cheap. Rough costs back in 2006 would equate to about 0,5% of the energy produced. Nowadays, I would expect that technical improvements would reduce that a little.

In regards to underground currents, they would raise the amount of available energy if, and only if, the Engineers knew what they were doing when the systems were planned.
