Do you know Admin, I have amazed my self.
The mistake I made was x and y CAN'T be the same number !!!!!
I thought, what if x and y were two different numbers.
I'm sure there is a mathematical way to do this, which i am not capable of.
Just by trying different combinations of numbers where x is always greater than y I came up with this.

x = 27 and y = 9.

x + y = 36
x - y = 18
Therefore x / y = 3.

I may be wrong or there may be another solution of course.

Final attempt.
You started out with $800 and finished up with $1300.
So, $1300 minus original $800 = $500.
This will be wrong of course!!!!!

- 800 +1000 =200
-1.100+1300=200

200 plus 200 =400

Here's a stinker about the ages of three sisters. I do not have the answer as such, just my own calculations/thoughts, so let's see what you come up with.

They were all 32 because they were triplets.
I put that because you could make up different combinations of ages that would make it work, whereas that is always true.
I may be wrong of course !!!
