Re: BBC
Should the BBC do away with the licence fee, and be funded by adverts?

Re: BBC
A difficult one that Lolly, and of course it all boils down to money.
Would the income from adverts be the same as the income from the licence fee?
If not would the standard of programmes we’ve come to expect from The Beeb be compromised?
The best thing about the BBC is that you don’t get the interruptions and breaks in continuity you get from commercial TV stations.
The only good thing about the breaks is they provide an opportune time for a comfort break or to make a cuupa, or for some folks on here to crack open a can, get a tot or top up their wine glass !!!!!, no names no pack drill

Re: BBC
What do you think about the BBC buying all nine series of Suits? [Meghan Markle the star] Using licence payers money
Or Sam Smith at the proms? Who's paying him/her they, not sure of the correct pronoun

Re: BBC
I have no problems with the BBC buying dramas and series, it must be a lot cheaper than paying production costs, providing of course they continue to do original programmes as well.
As regards ‘Suites’, I suppose there will be interest in it with it being ‘Her’.
I had to Google Sam Smith, a bit of a controversial figure, I have no problem at all concerning anybody transgender or in his case ‘non-binary’, I had to Google that too, but whether he is proms material I think not.

I havn't got a problem with who Sam Smith is, but I hardly think he's proms material.
I suppose we will have to wait and see. The BBC are bleating about having to make cuts, [local radio took a hit] then they buy all nine series of years old Suits. Are they made of money?

My opinion: First off, I dont think that advertisements should be allowed on the BBC. They are far too disruptive to programes.
My suggestion would be a bit radical. The cirrent licence fee if memory serves is £169.50. Even if some people pay it, some dont. The easy way to get to these that dont pay would be to convert the fee into a percentage of income, to be paid in with income tax. That way, the poorer in society would get free licences, the richer would pay more. It would also increase with pay rises, etc.
