Re: Wigan Pics
Lolly, thank you, some cracking pictures of our town, we have some great architecture.
I would have put ‘lovely’, but sadly some of our buildings are in need of some TLC.
Still, it’s the Wigan I love, and although I live within the area of Bolton Metro, me and Mrs RMJ visit Wigan town centre once a week and very rarely venture into Bolton town centre.
We have a most wonderful open space called Mesnes Park, a lovely place to visit in Summer or Winter.
The bowls and tennis areas need updating, which is on the cards.
The much maligned Galleries which are feeling the effects of our economic downturn and switch to internet shopping are suffering.
Why don’t the council make the rents affordable or even free to attract retailers.
The Grand Arcade is a super wide airy open space to shop, sadly we are losing M& S soon, I hope they can fill that space with a suitable retailer, I did hear of Morrisons being mentioned, which seems unlikely since they have closed their shop in the Galleries.
The Market Square has recently been reconstructed which is nice as it’s the central area of the town centre, my only complaint is the paving stones slope at alarming angles, which is a little disconcerting for an old git like me!!!!! LOL.

Re: Wigan Pics
Oh, great stuff...what good days those must have been. I remember seeing the car park but didn't realise that it used to be the goods yard. Thanks again for this, NM.
Re: Wigan Pics
If I remember correctly Leigh Model Railway Society were modelling Red Rock but I never saw it so I don't know if it was ever completed

Re: Wigan Pics
Now that would be interesting.
I once, thought of modelling from Wallgate to Southport. A very ambitious project but logical. Money would have flown in from all over, I am sure. Some members even offered to help get it off the ground. (WW) Back then.

There's a chap called Dennis I've forgot his last name he was a member there and he has had quite a few books published about railways in the area he would know
