Plenty of Gaskells in mine, Lolly, connected with Pemberton, Shevington and Crooke, and with Turner and Finney families.Lolly wrote:LOL there's an Alice Gaskell in my family tree

Re: Years Ago.
I had an Uncle Peter buried there in 1966 his wife I think was Jane. My tree is very confusing as there were a lot of ancestors who bore the
same names.

Re: Years Ago.
Hi Gassey, Alfred Turner was my great great uncle.
His older sister Ellen (1857-1909) was my great grandmother.
She took the surname of her common law husband John Gaskell, but never got round to wedding him.
They had seven kids, one of which was my paternal grandma.

Re: Years Ago.
Must have known my grandparents, Gassey.
They lived at Lower Ground, Martland Mill, and Springfield, at different times.

Re: Years Ago.
I wonder if Tom Moorefield was any relation to the Moorefield family that owned farms on Bell Lane and City Rd.

Re: Years Ago.
Heck of a lot of Moorfields around Pemberton and the bottom end of Orrell Lolly, there will no doubt be a connection somewhere.Lolly wrote:I wonder if Tom Moorefield was any relation to the Moorefield family that owned farms on Bell Lane and City Rd.
I think Sid Moorfield, the milkman, who lived in the white farmhouse at the bottom of City Road, and who died about twenty years ago was one of the farming Moorfields.
A lot of the Moorfields seemed to be in business locally. Two of my mates were married to two Moorfield sisters. Their dad was a builder.

Re: Years Ago.
I remember well Sydney and Joan. I lived next door to the other sister[for the life of me cant remember her name] top of City Rd, 3 doors down from the farm house. Saw the cattle being walked up City Rd from the fields on Bell Lane, for milking. They had a huge white shire horse. I think Joan had the farmhouse at the top of Bell Lane. The other sister was Marian, married to Derek

I knew Sydney vaguely.Lolly wrote:I remember well Sydney and Joan.
It used to be one of my jobs to go and visit him, whenever he wanted to make an alteration to, or renew his Firearms Certificate.

Admin - she is one of the two sisters I mentioned above. Brenda is the other - three or four years older than Olwyn.Admin wrote:There was an Olwyn Moorfield in my class at St John's in the fifties.
