Interesting history.

Many years ago, I heard about the origin of the word, 'Gossip'...

Apparently in the old days before newspapers and modern communicans, a landowner or baron, knight and such like, who wanted to know what the local peopple were saying about him and others, would send an employee to the local tavern to have a pint and overhear what was being said. He was told to 'Go-sip'.

Amazing how things have changed in 100 years. This lad had an indenture which I suppose is the same as a work contract today.

A few years ago a friend gave me an indenture from 1609. It was written beautifully on parchment or some kind of animal skin such as goat. Her husband was a lawyer and had removed boxes of these from the attic of business down south. They musy have been worth a fortune.
